What Is Best For The Family
Aunt Alexandra was of the opinion
Declaring what is Best For The Family
Teaching me how to be a lady
Try to behave
She fitted into the world of Maycomb
Secretary of the Maycomb Amanuensis
Scratch most folks in Maycomb
The last of her kind
They recieved a Crawford instead of a Finch
She was cold and there
Said wasn't supposed to do anything
That required pants
We are not run of the mill people
One had to behave like a sunbeam
I'm wouldn't be so sure of that
She must have put him up to this
Aunt Alexandra was of the opinion
Declaring what is Best For The Family
The last of her kind

This poem is about Scouts belief of Aunt Alexandra. Scouts view of her is very negative. She is bossy and mean. One line during the poem shows that Scout might not think that her family is more special than any other family. She sees herself as normal. Aunt Alexandra is just an authority figure who tries to teach the family how to act.
ReplyDeleteI really like the way you used repetition in your poem, and made the poem flow very smoothly. the quotes you used really do show scouts view of aunt Alexandra.
ReplyDeleteThis poem is very interesting, and it flows nicely. The lines were arranged so it was was easy to understand and tell which character was being talked about.
ReplyDeleteThis poem certainly shows the overbearing-ness of Aunt Alexandra from Scout's point of view. However, it makes you think: Does Aunt Alexandra have another side to her? Was she ever like Scout in her youth? What made them diverge in personality as much as they do? (I may have to start a book theory YouTube channel just to find out...)
ReplyDeleteI also like that you seem to have moved into Scout's head when you were writing the poem, it really adds authenticity.
